CHAPTER 8: Loyalty Has a Dispatch Number

Preston stared at the envelope as if paper had become a weapon.
Caleb opened it carefully. Elias watched his son read with the stillness of a man trying not to collapse before the truth finished arriving.
The letter explained everything Preston had hidden behind concern: altered board minutes, medical statements drafted by a doctor on Preston’s payroll, loans moved through Camilla’s private charity, and a planned guardianship filing scheduled for Monday morning.
Elias had written one final instruction beneath the evidence.
If he tries to make me disappear, call the drivers before the lawyers. The drivers still know who built the road beneath him.
Caleb folded the letter once. His expression did not change. Preston’s did.
