CHAPTER 11: The Reflection in the Glass
The footage did not need sound.
Sometimes silence made evidence cleaner.
On the tablet, the balcony doors opened. Nora stepped backward into view, one hand against her stomach, the other raised between herself and Dorian. Marion appeared in the glass behind them. Elise stood farther back, visible in the reflection of the study windows.
There was an argument the camera could not hear.
Then Dorian moved too fast.
Maya watched without blinking. August did not watch at all after the first few seconds. He looked at Nora instead, as if refusing to let the worst moment of her night become the only thing he saw.
Dorian's voice broke through the rain.
'That is not what it looks like.'
Maya closed the tablet cover.
'It looks like enough for you to stop talking without counsel.'
An officer stepped behind Dorian.
The balcony above them had nothing left to hide.
