CHAPTER 6: The Guest Who Thought He Owned the Room

Benjamin had checked into the presidential suite that morning and treated the title like a crown.
He demanded champagne before noon. He rejected flowers because one petal had a crease. He made a waiter replace an entire silver tray because he claimed the reflection looked dull.
The hotel tolerated difficult guests.
It did not tolerate cruelty.
Ava had come to observe the lobby after three staff complaints reached her father’s private office. She wanted to see the truth before signing anything that would ban Benjamin Hale from every Carter property in the country.
She saw enough in ten minutes.
The slap was not the beginning of his exposure.
It was merely the moment he gave witnesses a reason to stop protecting his reputation.
Marcus spoke without raising his voice.
“Mr. Hale, your access to the property is suspended.”
Benjamin’s grip tightened around his phone.
“You can’t do that.”
Marcus did not blink.
“She can.”
