CHAPTER 11: Vivienne Discovers the Real Door
Vivienne had entered Moretti House through the front doors every time.
She had believed that mattered. The butler's bow, the cameras at the gate, the way staff lowered their voices when she crossed the foyer. She mistook access for ownership because no one had corrected her loudly enough.
Sebastian corrected her now with procedure.
His attorney took the velvet case. His security director preserved the camera archive. The head of household collected staff statements. Every motion was calm, and calm made it final.
Vivienne tried one last smile. It trembled at the edges.
'Sebastian, you are emotional. You heard your daughter cry and forgot the bigger picture.'
He looked at Lily, then at Elena's untied apron lying on the marble.
'No,' he said. 'I finally saw it.'
Vivienne's eyes hardened. 'You would end our engagement over a servant?'
Sebastian stepped closer, his voice low enough that the closest guests leaned away.
'I am ending it because a servant protected my child better than the woman who wanted my name.'
The sentence closed around Vivienne like a door locking from the outside.
