CHAPTER 3: The Video Julian Built
Julian’s video looked convincing.
It showed Ava entering the Sterling Foundation after midnight. It showed her using her security badge, sitting at a computer, and opening restricted financial records. Then the footage cut to an account summary indicating a large transfer to an offshore company.
Ava knew because she had been in the office that night after receiving an anonymous email claiming the children’s hospital fund was being drained. Julian had called her minutes later.
He asked where she was.
She told him everything.
He urged her to copy the files and bring them home.
Ava refused. She contacted internal compliance instead.
Now he held edited security footage as proof that she had created the transfer herself.
“You planned this,” Ava whispered at the altar.
Julian’s smile barely moved.
“I prepared for the truth.”
Victor walked down the center aisle.
Julian lifted the phone.
“This is between Ava and me.”
Victor stopped at the first pew.
“No,” he said. “The moment you accused my daughter of a felony in a room full of witnesses, you invited everyone.”
Julian glanced toward his best man, then toward his mother seated near the aisle. Neither moved. Their stillness was too coordinated to be surprise. Ava noticed it for the first time and understood that Julian had not built the scene alone.
Victor noticed too.
He turned slightly toward Rachel, who gave one small nod. Another piece had just fallen into place.
