CHAPTER 4: The Agreement Behind the Bouquet

A folded legal agreement was hidden beneath Ava’s bouquet ribbon.

Julian had placed it beneath the ribbon before the ceremony. He told her to sign during the private blessing after the vows. In exchange, he promised the video would never leave his phone.

She had spent the final twenty minutes before the ceremony locked in the bridal room, trying to call Victor.

His number went to voicemail.

She left one message.

Dad, you were right. I do not know how to get out.

Then Julian entered without knocking.

He took the pen from her hand and slid the agreement beneath the bouquet ribbon.

“Smile,” he said. “There are cameras outside.”

Now Victor stood inside the church, and the same agreement remained pressed against the stems in her hands.

Victor looked at the bouquet.

“Ava,” he said, “is there something inside it?”

Julian stepped between them.

“She is emotional.”

Ava’s grief turned suddenly sharp.

Ava pulled the folded pages from the ribbon and held them up.

“He told me to sign this after the vows.”

The priest’s expression changed.

Victor looked at Julian.

Julian’s confidence flickered for the first time.

Ava unfolded the first page only far enough to reveal her unsigned signature line. Her hands were still shaking, but now the movement came from anger rather than helplessness.

“I asked for time to review it,” she said. “He told me that innocent people do not need time.”

Rachel stepped beside her.

“Coerced consent is not consent,” she said.

The sentence moved through the church like a second set of doors opening.
