CHAPTER 6: The Cloud Julian Forgot
Julian used Ava’s home network for every device.
Every device connected to the Sterling residence created timestamped backup records.
Julian’s phone had uploaded draft versions of the accusation video.
The drafts showed the edits.
Remove the compliance call.
Make it look like she initiated the transfer.
Keep her face visible.
Rachel held up a tablet but did not display readable details to the guests.
“We have the original files,” she said.
Julian’s face hardened.
“You accessed my private data.”
Victor answered, “You used a company-secured residence and foundation footage to manufacture evidence against a trustee.”
“That does not make the search legal.”
Rachel’s expression remained calm.
“The warrant does.”
Two investigators entered through the open doors.
Julian looked toward the side exit.
Victor noticed.
“So now you understand how it feels,” he said.
“How what feels?”
“To stand in a beautiful room and realize every door belongs to the truth.”
Ava wiped the tears from her face.
For the first time that day, Julian looked frightened.
The guests were no longer whispering about Ava’s supposed theft. They were looking at Julian’s phone, his side exit, his tightening grip. His own body had begun testifying before any investigator spoke.
Ava realized public humiliation depended on controlling the audience’s conclusion.
Julian had lost that control.
