CHAPTER 9: The Phone Call Grant Feared

Charles took out his phone in the middle of the marble hall.
Grant’s eyes followed the movement like a man watching a blade being unsheathed.
“Charles,” he said, softer now. “We have business together.”
“Had,” Charles corrected.
The call connected on the first ring.
Charles spoke one sentence to someone at Whitmore Capital.
“Freeze every Cross-linked credit facility until morning review.”
Grant went still.
A second call followed.
“Notify the merger committee that Mr. Cross is under legal review and should not appear as primary signatory.”
Then a third.
“Send the doctor through the main entrance. No back doors.”
Amelia watched her husband’s empire begin to tilt without a single raised voice.
He had thought power meant making people afraid in private.
Her father knew real power left paper trails before sunrise.
