Then Everett coughed and said the words that turned the parking lot colder than the evening.
I did not approve that sale. Do not put my son's name in another false report.
Noah looked down at the asphalt.
For three years, he had carried the shame of a family narrative written by people who needed him gone. Hearing his father reject it did not heal the years. It only proved he had not invented the wound.
Adrienne's face emptied of performance.
"He was medicated," she said weakly.

"Then why were you asking him for consent?"
