CHAPTER 8: The Security Booth Blinks Twice

The gate booth light changed from white to green.
Noah saw it over Adrienne's shoulder and felt the first quiet shift of the night.
Two security officers stepped out near the employee entrance. They did not approach like men interrupting a domestic problem. They approached like men responding to a property alert.
Adrienne saw them and turned cold.
"I will have them remove you," she said.
"You already tried that once," Noah answered.
The older officer nodded to Noah, not to Adrienne. That simple motion did more damage than any speech.
"Mr. Marlow," he said, "the west camera captured the glove box opening. The continuity alert also notified headquarters."
Julian exhaled through his nose.
Continuity alert. Everett had been many things, but he had never been careless.
The car had not merely stored evidence. It had called witnesses.
Adrienne looked suddenly trapped between the sedan and the tower bearing the name she had worn like jewelry.
