CHAPTER 3: The Room That Watched Everything
Dr. Harris moved before anyone else did.
She crossed to Olivia's side, placing herself between the bed and Vivian with the calm authority of someone who had handled panic without becoming it. Her hand settled gently on Olivia's shoulder.
"Are you hurt anywhere new?" she asked.
Olivia shook her head once. Her eyes stayed on Ethan.
Ethan had not looked away from Vivian.
That frightened Vivian more than shouting would have. Men like Ethan were loud when anger was still simple. He was silent when something inside him had decided.
"This is not what it looked like," Vivian said.
Dr. Harris turned her head slightly.
"The room camera caught everything."
The words landed cleanly.
Vivian's face emptied.
She glanced up, finally seeing the discreet lens placed for patient safety, hospital liability, and the privacy protocol Ethan himself had ordered after threatening calls from the press.
The camera had been there the entire time.
Olivia closed her eyes for one second, not from relief, but from the exhaustion of being believed only when glass and circuits could testify.
Still, evidence was a door, and tonight it had opened before Vivian could lock it.
