CHAPTER 12: The Bloodline Hearing

The bloodline hearing filled the county courthouse.

Victor sat beside Elena and Rosa. Celeste sat behind her attorney with Noah cared for safely outside the courtroom by a licensed nurse.

Grant appeared in custody.

His lawyers challenged everything.

They argued Victor’s secret DNA test was unlawful, the original will had been damaged, and Rosa’s story was shaped by the promise of wealth. They claimed Elena had conspired with staff to seize the estate.

Then the evidence began.

A certified laboratory confirmed the parent-child match through a new voluntary test witnessed by the court. Medical records showed Isabella gave birth to a daughter matching Elena’s age and genetic profile. The bracelet and locket appeared in dated photographs.

Rosa testified about the storm, the threats, and the payments.

Grant’s attorney asked why she kept the money.

“To feed the child your client told me would be killed if I spoke.”

“Yet you never returned it.”

“I used it on rent, food, and school. Then I worked two jobs when the payments stopped.”

Rosa did not pretend fear had made her perfect. That honesty made her difficult to attack.

Celeste testified next.

She described the forged will and her cooperation with Grant. The opposing attorney asked whether she now supported Elena only to reduce her sentence.

“Yes,” Celeste said. “That is one reason. Another is that she is telling the truth.”

Grant watched her with hatred.

Victor took the stand last.

He admitted testing Elena without her consent and hiding the result until the reception. He admitted placing reputation above honesty.

“Did Ms. Ruiz pressure you to transfer the estate?” the attorney asked.

“No.”

“Did she ask for money?”

“No.”

“What did she ask for?”

Victor looked at Elena.

“She asked why I found her and still chose secrecy.”

The judge reviewed the trust language.

The estate transfer had not occurred because Victor emotionally declared Elena his heir. It occurred automatically when her identity was legally verified. The house, controlling shares, and family archives belonged to the trust for Elena’s benefit.

Noah’s fund remained protected regardless of Celeste’s legal outcome.

The judge recognized Elena Isabella Vance as Victor’s daughter.

Cameras flashed outside.

Reporters shouted, “How does it feel to own the Vance estate?”

Elena stepped to the microphones.

“I do not own the people who work there. I do not own my father’s love. I do not own my mother Rosa’s sacrifices. A deed is not a family.”

Behind her, Victor began to cry.

Then Priya received an urgent message from investigators.

The maintenance contractor who cut Adrian’s fuel line had agreed to testify.

Grant Mercer had ordered the sabotage.

And he had done it because Adrian was hours away from revealing Elena’s identity.
